No Time for Wellness? How an Intentional Life Review Can Create Space for Movement

“I just don’t have time to exercise.”

How often have you found yourself saying—or thinking—those words? You’re not alone. For many of us, wellness practices like movement, mindfulness, or self-care are often the first things to drop off our to-do lists when life feels overwhelming.

But what if the real issue isn’t a lack of time? What if it’s about how we allocate the time we already have—and how we honor our own well-being within the realities of our lives?

At Ayana Flow, we believe that wellness isn’t about squeezing one more thing into an already-packed schedule. It’s about creating space for what truly matters, even when life feels stretched thin.

The Time Barrier to Wellness

Modern life is busy. Between work, family, and countless daily tasks, it can feel impossible to carve out time for yourself. The truth is, the challenge of finding time for wellness isn’t the same for everyone. Factors like work schedules, caregiving responsibilities, and financial constraints can make it much harder for some people to prioritize self-care.

I’ve experienced this firsthand. When my life turned upside down in 2022—navigating a separation, losing my father, and then losing my mother unexpectedly—I felt like my world was spinning too fast to catch my breath. During that time, I had so little energy for myself, and movement felt like a luxury I couldn’t afford.

But I learned that it’s during life’s most overwhelming moments that creating space for yourself becomes absolutely essential. Even small acts of self-care, like a short walk or a few minutes of quiet reflection, can bring grounding and clarity.

At Ayana Flow, we recognize that not everyone has the same 24 hours in their day. Socioeconomic realities, caregiving responsibilities, and life’s challenges can make prioritizing self-care feel unattainable. But if it is important to you, in even the smallest pockets of time, there is an opportunity to nurture yourself and make wellness accessible for your life as it is today.

The Power of an Intentional Life Review

An intentional life review is a practice of reflecting on your time and responsibilities to identify what aligns with your values and goals. It’s not about perfection—it’s about consciously choosing to prioritize the things that nourish and sustain you.

For example, creating space for movement doesn’t just improve your physical health. It can reduce stress, boost your mood, and help you feel more present in your daily life. These benefits ripple into everything you do, from work to relationships.

This practice is especially powerful when life feels overwhelming. Even if you have just a little space to work with, an intentional review can help you find time to prioritize wellness in ways that feel accessible and meaningful.

How to Create Space for Movement and Wellness

Here’s how you can use an intentional life review to find time for what matters—no matter your circumstances:

  1. Identify Your Wellness Goals

Start by asking yourself: Why is movement important to me? Whether it’s for energy, stress relief, better health, or something else, clarifying your “why” will give you the motivation to prioritize it.

  1. Audit Your Time

Keep a time diary for a few days. Write down how you spend each hour, and look for patterns. Are there activities that don’t align with your goals or bring you joy?

  1. Make Wellness Non-Negotiable

Treat movement and mindfulness like an appointment. Add them to your calendar and honor them as you would any other commitment. Start small, with activities like a 10-minute walk or a 5-minute stretch.

  1. Let Go of Time-Wasters

Identify activities that drain your time and energy, like excessive scrolling or unnecessary obligations. Ask yourself, What can I say no to in order to say yes to my well-being?

  1. Adapt to Your Reality

If your time is limited due to work, caregiving, or other commitments, find small, manageable ways to integrate wellness into your day. This might mean mindful breathing during a commute, stretching while cooking, or involving family in movement activities. Every little bit counts.

A Personal Reflection

When I was navigating the most challenging chapters of my life, movement wasn’t always easy to prioritize—but I felt it was a high priority for me to fit it in. I discovered that letting go of tasks and responsibilities that didn’t align with my goals or values allowed me to create small moments of wellness that helped me feel more grounded, present, and resilient.

This process wasn’t just about freeing up my time. It was about reclaiming it. That’s why I’m so passionate about sharing these tools with you through Ayana Flow.
